Point 16 and 17- Who is my perfect audience member for my video and how my video is going to attract my ‘perfect audience member’.

Who is my perfect audience member?

The genre of pop punk can be described as a strand of alternative rock, which typically merges pop melodies with a speedy punk tempo, frequent chord changes and loud guitars that have ‘a radio friendly sheen to their music, but still maintaining much of the speed and attitude of classic punk rock’.

The first chart shows that the age demographic of the target audience for alternative rock is 16-25 year olds. People from within this demographic are stereotyped to be studying for exams (school, college, university), go to parties, be at the most enjoyable time (socially) in their life etc. Maslow's hierarchy of human needs is applicable to the age demographic through the social aspect of having a lot of friends and being a part of a group (in terms of liking alternative rock music).

This chart shows that fans of alternative rock are mainly males and this could be because many of the artists present within the genre are males themselves. There is a good following of alternative rock from females but it's male dominated.

The third chart shows that the ethnicity of the primary target audience are 'white'. Majority of the artists present within alternative rock are of a white ethnicity - in contrast to Hip Hop where many of the artists are of a black ethnicity.

From the results, all of the target audience believe that the best possible music videos have a mixture of narrative and performance.

Here is the UK tribes definition of my target audience member. Looking at this I am going to have to analyse my tribe so that my video is going to attract my target audience.

Hopefully my final video will show all of these stereotypical features to my tribe so that my video will attract my audience

Point 15- Research on music audience and Why do people choose the music they do?

Point 14- Mood board of your chosen genre

Here is my mood board toward my chosen genre.

Point 13- Storyboard of another song in your chosen genre

Here is the video I chose to storyboard-

My Drawing skills are not the greatest but the information is still there.

Another video in my chosen genre which I have taken 9 key screen shots of which I will take inspiration from for my video

The song is I'll just wait by Emorosa. Here is the link to the video...

This is a key shot because it is the opening shot to the video. I can take this as an inspiration because opening shots of music videos always have to make the audience intrigued and engaged and this shot does because of the detailed Mise En Scene with its formal setting and the white pillars and decorative bannisters.

This is a key shot because it is the first time we see a side story line character other then the lead singer. I am going to take inspiration from this shot because some of the lyrics say 'walking away' and this is why we are seeing the back of this character. In my video I want to match some of the shots I use to the lyrics in the song.

This is a key shot because it is the first time we see the side stories characters face. I can take inspiration from this because although its only the first time we see a characters face the background makes the face stand out.

This is a key shot because it is the first live band shot in the video. I can take inspiration from this because of the cool location and fancy balcony.

This is a key shot because it is the first time we see a shot which doesn't focus on the lead singer or the character from the side story however focuses on the performers of the live music in the song. I can take inspiration from this shot because I am going to have live music in my song.
This is a key shot because it is a shot which is repeated from the beginning. I can take inspiration from this shot because it is a very interesting shot with lots going on and can repeat interesting shots if I feel it will work.

This is a key shot because it is one of the main shots which goes along with one of the main lyrics to the side story in the song. I can take inspiration from this because I am going to have a side story in my video and I found this very effective and will definitely take idea from this.

This is a key shot because it IS the main shot which goes along with the side story of the song. I can take inspiration from this shot because it is effective and a very strong shot because of the Mise en Scene.

This is a key shot because it is the closing shot of the song. I can take inspiration from this shot because it is a very strong shot to finish the video on.  The mise en scene setting is visually striking with the use of tone and colours.

Point 11- Textual analysis State Champs "If I'm Lucky" Official Music Video

Textual analysis of State Champs If I'm Lucky:

Cinematography

  • Use of establishing shots to set the scene and to show the audience where the video is taking place
  • Video clips of flashbacks from the past
  • Flips from shots of singer playing guitar and singing to flashbacks
  • During flashbacks lots of panning and mid shots used
  • During story which is happening in the video lots of point of views and also mid shots used
  • I like that near the ending there was an extreme long shot of the couple skateboarding which started to round off the end of the video well.
Editing

  • Old 70's vintage tint used on shot and coloured tint around the edges which gives a good effect ad shows the audience that this is a flashback
  • When it is a flashback the shot is sped up which also gives the audience the impression that it is a flashback
  • I like the cut between shots half way between lyrics
  • Cuts from shot to shot on the build up to final chorus on every beat was effective
Sound
  • I like the use of dialogue before the actual song started as it set the scene for the story in the video
  • Apart from that no other sound was present apart from the song itself which suits this genre well.
Mise en Scene

  • I like the switch between seeing music being played to the camera, flashbacks and story line.
  • Seeing Flashbacks was very effective and went with the lyrics of the song well
  • Use of location e.g. the middle of nowhere, was effective for this specific song and I will definitely take location into account when shooting my film.
