In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

I am going to create create a 3 by 3 ‘art of the title’ style grid of screen shots from my film and then describe in detail with examples how it compares to a similar ‘real’ media product.

This is my first screen shot from my video.
It is similar to real media products because
it displays the song name and band name
which occurs in many other real media products.

My second screen shot from my video is my opening
shot. This is an establishing shot which includes
the lead actor and lead singer of the band which
is very much like real media products in my chosen
genre.

My third screen shot from my video is when my second
lead actor appears on the video. This character is the
start of the videos narrative progression and for all
real life media products who have a narrative this shot
will be very common.

My fourth screen shot from my video is the start of the
equilibrium disrupting and progressing the narrative in
the video. This applies to all real life media products
who have a narrative and use Todorov's equilibrium theory.

My Fifth screen shot is a shot which occurs in many
different real life media products which is the lead singer/
lead actor on his own in a shot with effective lighting and visual
effects.

This screen shot is my sixth screen shot and
occurs many times in real life media products
in my chosen genre. The shot only includes
the lead guitarist of the band playing the song from one angle.

My seventh screen shot is again very occurrent in
real life media products in my chosen genre. It again
only includes the lead guitarist of the band however
this time from a different angle.

My eightieth screen shot occurs many times in
real life media products in my chosen genre. It is a
close up shot of our lead singer with the band in the backround.

My ninth and final screen shot is very popular in all types
of music videos in all types of genre's. It is a full band shot playing
the song.

And we are there! Here is my final updated promotional poster for State Champs's Album Around the World and Back!

Audience feeback on Mock Poster

Here is some audience feedback I have gathered from my mock poster from another A2 media student. I will make some changes with these points in mind to obtain my final promotional poster.

Mock up your advert

Here is my mock advert. I will obtain some audience feedback for my mock advert and then take on board the feedback and make any alterations I feel necessary.

Do a flat plan of your advert, work out the layout you want

Here is my first flat plan for my promotional poster:

Investigate how important the print advert is the promotion of the artist/music.

The Print advert is very important in the promotion in an artist music. It brings its target audience in and appeals to them. It does this by its use of:

  • Font
  • Colour
  • Images that the audience can relate to
  • Contrast
Here is a good example of a good promotional poster. The poster is for an album by a band called
Blink 182. It clearly shows the band name, and eye
catching image, colour contrast, the price pf the album and where the consumer can buy it. One of the biggest reasons why a promotional advertisement is so important is because it gets the consumer to go buy the product.

Research the conventions of CD advertising. Look at music advertising from the genre your music video is and come up with a list of conventions that you need to get right.

The conventions of CD advertising in my chosen genre are very simple. In a lot of pop punk albums you wont see anything fancy or highly technical on the promotional images. Here is just one example of an advertisement for one band's album. However just because the conventions of CD advertisement in my chosen genre are simple doesn't mean they are not effective. I still need to focus on achieving a convincing promotional poster that fits into my chosen genre well. There is a list of conventions I will take from this promotional advertisement for a band called Real Friends for my final poster.

  • Clear Band Name
  • Clear Album Name
  • Easy To Look At
  • Contrasting Colour Scheme
  • Relating Image to Album Name/ Key Song
